THIS DOC ALWAYS CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
NOTE:
────
Anytime you are upgrading TO a version FROM a version that does not have
specific instructions in the documentation here, you should delete what you
have installed and reinstall The Quest For Nora. Delete all the files in
your TQFN directory and follow the instructions in INSTALL.DOC with the
NEW archive. This may seem like a hassle, but there are sometimes
substantial changes between certain versions and the CONFIG.EXE program makes
installation a snap.
What's NEW in version 4.2?
──────────────────────────
-> Added a CLEAN MODE option. This feature will allow the Sysop to toggle
the CLEAN MODE on or off. If it is toggled on, then the option APPROACH
THE VILLAGE VIRGIN at the Travel to the Gathering Hut menu will be
disabled. This ones for you Della :) Some Sysop's did not like the
option on their "G" rated BBS. Personally I thought it was fine for all
ages, but now the Sysop has the option to have it or not.
-> ALL EPM's will now work even in the unregistered version of TQFN.
Registrations have been steady enough for me to no longer disable these
and allow everyone to try them. Players cannot get past level 6 still and
this is the ONLY limitation in the unregistered game. Personally I think
that's enough to get folks to register the game. Sucks when you can't
win :)
-> Make sure you obtain v2.1 of ALL EPM's to run with this version of TQFN.
Upgrading them will be a simple overwrite of the files.
UPGRADING FROM v3.4 or v3.5 or v4.0 or v4.1 to v4.2:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
FILES INCLUDED IN THE ARCHIVE:
─────────────────────────────
FILE_ID.DIZ <- Decription file
INSTALL.DOC <- First time installation doc
QUESTV42.EXE <- Main Quest For Nora archive
UPGRADE.DOC <- Your in it
UPGRADE.EXE <- Upgrading executable
Move UPGRADE.EXE and QUESTV42.EXE into your Quest For Nora directory. Run
UPGRADE.EXE. The program will ask you if you would like to toggle the
CLEAN MODE on or off (Y = ON N = OFF). When the program starts to unarchive
the main Quest For Nora archive it will ask you if you would like to
overwrite the first file. Choose "A" here to overwrite ALL of the files.
Don't worry, precautions have been taken with UPGRADE.EXE to keep your current
configuration settings intact. Your QUEST.CFG file will remain intact.
Upgrading manually is not recommended. Use UPGRADE.EXE to do this for you.
Once the overwrites have been completed, your game will be upgraded.
YOUR GAME DOES NOT NEED TO BE RESET!
That's it...You are all ready to go again!
-> Once this is done, you can delete ALL of the files listed above. They
no longer need to be used.
Thanks for choosing The Quest For Nora for your BBS!
What's NEW in version 4.1?
──────────────────────────
-> Fixed a few small bugs found by users looking to fool around more than
actually play the game. When the user entered a name to send mail to or
a name to attack, instead of entering an actual name, these users had
entered leading spaces. No harm done in the mail routine, but these
spaces would allow the user to say no through a listing of players and
then say something to the effect of: "Would you like to attack ?[Y/N]"
If the user said Yes, then after a nonsense battle the TQFN player.dat
file would become corrupt because of the nonexistent record. A tough one
to find folks, but it was there...Leave it up to the users, huh?
-> Fixed a few display things within the program. Nothing wrong, just made
a few things tighter and cleaner.
-> Added support for PCBOARD.SYS, SFDOORS.DAT, DORINFOx.DEF and CALLINFO.BBS.
These 4 drop files can now be used as well as DOOR.SYS.
-> The overall way the door handles mail has been revamped. If a BBS had more
than 9999 users a problem came creeping in. 9999 users, boy, that would
be nice, huh? Also, in order to support DORINFOx.DEF, the routines had
to be changed a bit. Instead of asking you to reset the game, I have
written a routine to change over the current user mail numbers. While
this should go off without a hitch in your game, users who have mail
waiting for them before the upgrade, will lose it. If the message is that
important, I'm sure the author will write it again <G>.
-> Remember, v1.0 of ALL EPM's WILL NOT WORK with v4.0+ of TQFN. Please
obtain v2.0 of ALL EPM's if you wish to run the Extended Play Modules.

What's NEW in version 4.0?
──────────────────────────
-> Totally reworked and recoded the way TQFN handles running EPM's. Some
Sysop's were still experiencing the occasional lock up on their systems.
This archive contains the first 3 EPM archives that have been updated to
work with this version of TQFN. The initial releases of Frankendella's
Lair, Doon's Domain and The Cave of Treasures, all v1.0, will NOT work
with this version of TQFN. The lock ups and memory problems should be
HISTORY!

If you are running ANY of the EPM's, then move the appropriate EPM archive
as listed above into your main TQFN directory and run it. Choose "A" to
overwrite ALL of the files. This will upgrade the appropriate EPM(s) to
work with this version of TQFN.
Sorry for the hassle here folks and I certainly did NOT want to be releasing
so many versions so quickly, but I am a perfectionist and if something is
not working properly, then I HAVE to fix it. Besides, you want the BEST
possible product, right? Thanks for your patience with these upgrades.
That's it...You are all ready to go again!
-> Once this is done, you can delete ALL of the files listed above. They
no longer need to be used.
Thanks for choosing The Quest For Nora for your BBS!
What's NEW in version 3.6?
──────────────────────────
-> Had another registered owner point out a small bug in the program. When
there was more than one person who had won the game, it would list the
second player twice when the player used the [H]eroes of the Jungle
option when visiting the Medicine Man.
-> Fixed a couple of small display bugs in the CONFIGURATION UTILITY. Another
Sysop asked for me to also include the users ALIAS when locking a player
out or reinstating a player. The Configuration Utility would just show
the players REAL name and not their ALIAS as well, so this particular
Sysop was not sure if he was locking out the right player. He shouldn't
have any problems with the match now.

──────────────────────────
-> Fixed an OVERFLOW ERROR that occurred in a certain place at a certain time,
when the moon was full and so on. Needless to say, it was one of those
elusive bugs that just finally showed up on a certain user. I have
played the game in and out several times and never encountered this, but
hey, it was there! Thanks to Mike Porter for pointing this out to me.

-> Just when you think everything is just fine, a couple of people leave you
a note and wham!....everything is not fine. A couple more small bugs have
been tackled in this release which is happenning just hours after the
release of v3.3....argh!
-> This will be the last version for a while....I hope. I need time to work
on some more EPM's!!

What's NEW in version 3.3?
──────────────────────────
-> Several small display things have been cleaned up. ie..the line was not
clearing properly when you went through a few players to find the one you
wanted to battle. This is now fixed.
-> Added a 14 day player inactivity deletion routine. If a user does not log
into the game for awhile, after 14 days, they will be automatically deleted
and so will all of their mail. This should tidy things up in your TQFN
directory.
-> Added more lines to the data file that is utilized when a player kills
another player. Also, added more lines to the wisdom file for the
Medicine Man to say when a user seeks his wisdom. Basically some more
hints on game play.
-> Lounge Software is always trying to make each release a BETTER version
and make sure that we do not rest on our butt! Once you have registered
TQFN, do not fear, we are always around to make it a better game and fix
anything that may not be right. If you have access to FIDONET, you can
always reach me, Jim Webb, through the DOORGAMES echo. I am always trying
to see what kind of trouble I can stir up there<G>.

──────────────────────────
-> Several small bug fixes and the door was still occasionally locking on
some systems(actually, just MY system for some reason). The gremlin <grin>
has been found and fixed!
-> Some players were experiencing battling problems when they advanced to
the next level too soon. This is deadly in TQFN. Amount of experience
needed to advance to the next level has been adjusted and should solve
this problem for most users. Although, if the user advances to level 3
and still has level 1 weapons and defense...well...that's not very good
strategy, but some users were doing it. This should help combat that
problem for most.
-> REGISTRATION has been temporarily CUT IN HALF from $30 to $15 until
AUGUST 31, 1996 ONLY! On SEPTEMBER 1, 1996, REGISTRATION will go back
to $30. Remember, registration includes ALL EPM's as FREEWARE!
UPGRADING FROM v3.1 to v3.2:
───────────────────────────

What's NEW in version 3.1?
──────────────────────────
-> Reworked the way the ANSI BULLETIN is written. Some systems with lower
amounts of base memory were choking when there was a call to BULLETIN.EXE
in their door .BAT file. Thought I had fixed this earlier, but some
Sysop's including myself, were still having some troubles. TQFN now writes
SCORES.ANS internally upon exit and the Sysop can rename it in the .BAT
file and move it from there. BULLETIN.EXE is no longer used so you can
just delete it from your TQFN directory.
-> Removed the Announcement to Other Players option at the Main Menu to
free up some memory restrictions. This option did not seem overly
important to anyone.
UPGRADING FROM v3.0 to v3.1:
───────────────────────────
Move ALL of the files included here including QUESTV31.EXE into your Quest
For Nora directory. Run the included UPGRADE.EXE. When the program starts
to unarchive the main Quest For Nora archive it will ask you if you would
like to overwrite the first file. Choose "A" here to overwrite ALL of the
files.
IMPORTANT: If you still want an ANSI BULLETIN created then remove the call
to BULLETIN.EXE in your door .BAT file. TQFN creates a SCORES.ANS
file now upon a user exit. You can rename and move this file to
whatever you want in your .BAT file.
That's it...You are all ready to go again!
Thanks for choosing The Quest For Nora for your BBS!
UPGRADING FROM ANY OTHER VERSION to v3.1:
────────────────────────────────────────
EXACTLY the same as upgrading from v3.0 to v3.1 but you MUST also RESET your
game. Type CONFIG in your TQFN directory and choose option #3.
That's it!
What's NEW in version 3.0?
──────────────────────────
-> More cosmetic changes have been made in this latest version.
-> Added players on-hand rubies to the display when they are trying to buy a
new weapon or defensive item.
-> Adjusted the amount of rubies that the player recieves in certain
instances.
-> Adjusted the amount of experience needed to advance to the next level as
well as the amounts needed to purchase weapons and defense.
-> Added the "Any key to continue - S to Stop" feature when user is shown the
Daily Happenings in case they do not want to read it all. I have some 35
players in my game currently and the Daily Happenings can get rather
large. This was added for those impatient users.
-> Changed the way strength is computed when a player attacks another player.
Version 2.0 and earlier made it almost impossible for a player with less
experience to kill a player who was higher than them. Now the player
battles rest on what weapons and defense each player has. Should make
player interaction more interesting and of course more fun!
UPGRADING FROM ANY version to v3.0:
──────────────────────────────────
Due to the many internal changes, The Quest For Nora will have to be RESET
this time.
Move ALL of the files included here including QUESTV30.EXE into your Quest
For Nora directory. Run the included UPGRADE.EXE. When the program starts
to unarchive the main Quest For Nora archive it will ask you if you would
like to overwrite the first file. Choose "A" here to overwrite ALL of the
files.
Don't worry, precautions have been taken with UPGRADE.EXE to keep your current
configuration settings intact. Your QUEST.CFG file will remain intact.
Upgrading manually is not reccommended. Use UPGRADE.EXE to do this for you.
Once the overwrites have been completed, your game will be upgraded.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST RESET YOUR GAME! Run CONFIG.EXE in your Quest For Nora
directory and choose option #3.
That's it...You are all ready to go again!
Thanks for choosing The Quest For Nora for your BBS!
What's NEW in version 2.0?
──────────────────────────
-> Mainly internal cosmetic changes in v2.0.
-> Allocated more memory in certain sections of the game.
-> Fixed a small problem that caused the door to lock when swapping to run
BULLETIN.EXE sometimes on systems with lower base memory.
UPGRADING FROM v1.1 to v2.0:
───────────────────────────
Move ALL of the files included here including QUESTV20.EXE into your Quest
For Nora directory. Run the included UPGRADE.EXE. When the program starts

UPGRADING FROM v1.0 to v2.0:
───────────────────────────
-> You must REINSTALL The Quest For Nora going from v1.0 to 2.0. Sorry folks,
had to happen.
What's NEW in version 1.1?
──────────────────────────
-> There have been quite a few changes in v1.1. Most of them cosmetic, but
also a few internal things that were pointed out to me from various
helpfull Sysop's that I know.
-> Cosmetically, the Configuration Utillity Program is a little more pleasing
to the eye. There were also a few keys that were being pressed in certain
places that shouldn't have been <grin> that is all fixed now.
-> The cosmetic and internal changes in the main game itself will most likely
go unnoticed by most users but they were bugging the hell out of me so
they are fixed now. For instance: In the Games with Village Locals,
playing the Coconut Guess, a user could enter in any number they wished
as opposed to just the 3 options that could win them something. There are
ONLY 3 coconuts to choose from but some users tried entering 4 or 5.
We're not sure why they would want to do this, since there really is NO
CHANCE of winning with those choices, but now they CAN'T enter them!
-> Of course, where you find good users, you also find bonehead users, so
BADWORDS.LST has been added to the game. This comes along with the
standard archive and already contains 8 no no words, but as Sysop you can
enter as many words in this file as you wish. This is a normal ascii
text file and can be edited with any text editor. Check QUEST.DOC for
the format of this file.
Basically there are 3 places where this file is used. For more info on
how this file is used, check out QUEST.DOC.
Now the fun part!
UPGRADING FROM v1.0 to v1.1:
───────────────────────────
Move ALL of the files included here including QUESTV11.EXE into your Quest
